SPECIAL BOARD MEETING
April 13, 2022
A Special Meeting of the Board of Trustees of Newberry Electric Cooperative, Inc. was held at Mid-Carolina High School, 377 Cy Schumpert Rd., Prosperity, SC on Wednesday, April 13, 2022 immediately following the 2022 Newberry Electric Cooperative Annual Meeting.
The meeting was called to order by Chairman Johnnie L. Dickert with the determination of a quorum present.
The Secretary reported that the following Board Members were present:
C.J. Bishop Leon Fulmer Craig Kesler
Blake Brigman Melanie Hawkins William B. Lominick, Sr.
Johnnie L. Dickert Douglas Hipp John W. Nichols
Also present were President and CEO G. Keith Avery, and President and CEO of Central Electric Power Cooperative Rob Hochstetler. Attorney Thomas H. Pope, III was not in attendance.
Chairman Dickert turned the meeting over to President Avery to discuss the upcoming vote at Central Electric Power Cooperative about the opt-out provision for the new generation resource with Santee Cooper. President Avery reviewed the meeting from earlier at Central Electric where viable alternatives were discussed. President Avery and Mr. Hochstetler answered questions about Santee Cooper’s closing and upgrade of the Winyah generation station.
After all questions were answered, Chairman Dickert asked for a motion to opt-in or opt-out of the renewable energy generation plan with the Winyah station. Trustee Hipp made a motion to opt-out of the plan with Santee Cooper. The motion was seconded, and the Board unanimously voted to opt-out.
President Avery stated that he and Chairman Dickert would cast to the opt-out vote at the Central Electric Power Cooperative Board Meeting on April 21, 2022.
There being no further business and without objections, Chairman Johnnie L. Dickert adjourned the April 2022 Special Board Meeting at 8:00 pm.
