NETWORK TECHNICIAN

This position will serve as the training ground to learn CarolinaConnect’s business, with the potential of advancement into a leadership role, as well as offer the potential for supervisory responsibilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Ensure network security and integrity.
- Configure, operate and maintain network routers and switches, including BGP, OSPF, DHCP, MPLS, and VPLS protocols.
- Configure, operate, and maintain fiber optic transport equipment, utilizing DWDM technologies and various optical SFPs
- Provision IPv4 and IPv6 protocols and manage IP address resources.
- Troubleshoot network issues and outages to support quality service delivery to customers.
- Install, operate and configure FTTP hardware, software and end-user services.
- Operate and maintain DC power plants in a network environment.
- Participate in planned network upgrades on various network components
- Participate in the review of catastrophic failures and provide feedback to prevent future occurrences.
- Update network diagrams, maps and equipment rack design.
- Provide appropriate operations activities related to regular testing of specific network elements including system backups.
- Develop, maintain and issue daily, weekly and monthly reports to support the proper operation of the high-speed network.
- Adhere to all company policies and procedures.
- Be available for periodic overtime, including evening and weekend work in response to changing system needs. On-call duty is required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- CCNA Certification/Security preferred.
- Associate’s degree (A.A.) in Engineering or equivalent from two-year college or technical school with two years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor’s degree in Engineering/IT a plus but not required.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Outstanding communication skills.
- Ability to successfully work alone as well as in a team environment.
- Ability to adhere to a schedule with minimum supervision.
