REGULAR BOARD MEETING

February 22, 2021

 

The Regular Meeting of the Board of Trustees of Newberry Electric Cooperative, Inc. was held in the Newberry Electric Cooperative, Inc. Board Room located in Newberry County, State of South Carolina on Monday, February 22, 2021 at 6:30 pm. Chairman Johnnie L. Dickert presided.

Trustee Blake Brigman attended through WebEx. After the call to order, invocation, and establishing members present, staff members presented the following information. Stephanie Sullivan discussed the ROW progress. Debra Shaw provided a map for the Annual Meeting and discussed related topics. Nick Shealy brought forth two policy revisions.

Trustee Doug Hipp made a motion to approve the Regular Board Meeting minutes from December 2020 as emailed. The motion was second and passed unanimously.

Finance Committee Chairman John Wayne Nichols reported that the Finance Committee met on February 16, 2021. The finance report was submitted as information. The consensus of the Board was to accept the report.

Attorney Thomas Pope stated that he did not have an Attorney Report at this time.

President and CEO G. Keith Avery reviewed his activity and meetings for the month.

On February 18, he met with the new CEO of Samsung. He discussed his upcoming meeting on February 26 with the SC Power Team.

President Avery reviewed in detail the financial and operational data for January 2021.

The amount of write offs for January is $1,807.38. Trustee Hipp made a motion to

accept this amount. The motion was seconded and passed unanimously.

President and CEO Avery reviewed the Engineering and Operations, Operational Support, and IT reports for the month. Engineering is continuing to work on Prosperity Substation upgrades. He also reported on the work Ellason Tree Service has completed since January 1, 2021.

President Avery reviewed information for the 2021 NRECA PowerXchange (Annual Meeting) and Tech Advantage conference.  It will be virtually February 24-25 and March 3-4, 2021.  Trustees confirmed who will attend.

President Avery discussed an overview of the virtual Directors Conference and confirmed who has signed up to attend.

President Avery stated the Washington Legislative Rally will take place April 19-April 21, 2021. This will be held virtually. Trustees need to let Deirdre Murphy know if they want to attend.

The Board reviewed the ECSC Board meeting highlights from the February 4, 2021 meeting and accepted it as information.

President and CEO G. Keith Avery reviewed the information on Safety and Loss Prevention Assessment sent by Jason Springs from Federated Rural Electric. This was accepted as information.

President Avery referenced a letter sent on behalf of the McMaster for Governor Campaign. The letter requested financial support on his campaign efforts to run in 2022. Trustee Doug Hipp made a motion to contribute. The motion was seconded and passed without opposition.

President Avery gave an overview of the summary report for the Central Electric Power Cooperative committee meeting that took place in February 2021. This report was accepted as information.

President Avery reviewed the meeting summary report for February 2021 for the Central Electric Power Cooperative Engineering Committee. The summary report was accepted as information.

There being no further business and without objections, Chairman Johnnie L. Dickert

adjourned the February 2021 Regular Board Meeting at 8:45 pm.
