NEC begins Meter Change-out Project

NEC begins Meter Change-out Project

In the coming months, beginning in August, Newberry Electric Cooperative will be replacing the electric meter(s) on your property as part of a planned equipment replacement project. The current electric meters are reaching the end of their useful life, and are scheduled for replacement.

NEC has contracted Allegiant Utility Services, who will be changing out meters Monday-Saturday from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm.  Allegiant vehicles will have their logo as well as an NEC magnet.  Meter installers will knock on your door before they begin working.  The installation will take about 10 minutes to complete, during which time you may briefly lose power.  However, you do not need to be home for the installation so long as the meter is outdoors and our personnel have clear and safe access.

Your new meter will benefit you in several ways:

It will help us improve the reliability of your service by better detecting power outages.

Pinpoint high or excessive usage.

Improved power quality monitoring.

This project will take approximately one year to complete.  This project is aimed at better serving our members and strengthening our electrical infrastructure.    All meters will be properly disposed of and this change-out is done with no additional charge to the consumer.

We appreciate your patience and understanding and look forward to the completion of this project.   If you have any other questions or concerns, please feel free to contact NEC at 803-276-1121.
