Newberry Electric Cooperative holds two shred events during the year, usually in the spring and fall. Since the event is free to the public, we partner with a local non-profit and ask participants to bring items to donate from a wish list provided by the non-profit.
It’s a win-win for all parties involved. Members can dispose of all of those sensitive documents such as tax records, old checkbooks, or items with social security numbers on them and the community members benefit from the donated items.
Columbia is the closest place to have items shredded; and it’s not free, so this project is a big benefit not only to NEC members, but the community.
We’re excited to announce that our Shred Event will be held in person at Newberry Electric Cooperative on Tuesday, August 10th, from 11 am – 2 pm! We request that each guest bring no more than (3) three boxes (copy paper box or smaller) or bags (kitchen trash bag or smaller) of sensitive documents for safe and secure shredding, per vehicle. There is no need to remove binders, binder clips, paper clips, staples, rubber bands, or CDs/DVDs prior to shredding.
During the event, we will be collecting items and donations to benefit the Free Medical Clinic in Newberry. Monetary donations are always appreciated but they are also in need of the following items:
Office supplies such as pens and highlighters, letter size file folders, hanging file folders, copy paper, staplers and staples, tape, paperclips, post-it notes, and bottled water.
Paper products such as paper towels, toilet paper, and tissues.
Personal hygiene items such as toothbrushes and toothpaste, shampoo and conditioner, soap, lotions, lip balm, wipes; hand sanitizer, medical-grade face masks, and disposable gloves.
Cleaning products such as disinfectant sprays, Clorox, and trash can liners.
